Sunday, December 23 following the 7pm show: Actor and Williamstown resident Jim Briggs will join Images Cinema's Executive Director Doug Jones for a conversation about his time performing the one-man show "Vincent" on the stage.

The renowned painter, Vincent van Gogh, spends his prolific period in Arles and Auvers-sur-Oise, France filling canvases with masterpieces of the natural world. Struggling with social anxiety and driven by an appreciation for sunlight, van Gogh becomes convinced to move south to pursue his art after meeting Paul Gaugin, portrayed here by Oscar Isaac. Based on his letters, this impressionistic biopic delves into the mind of a visionary.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker and painter Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), this new film takes a fresh look at the last days of Vincent van Gogh, and illuminates our sense of the artist as a living, feeling human being. The pulsing heart of At Eternity’s Gate is Willem Dafoe’s shattering performance: his Vincent is at once lucid, mad, brilliant, helpless, defeated, and, finally, triumphant.

Jim BriggsFounder of Starry Night Theater Co. Briggs toured the country, including 10 weeks Off-Broadway, to popular acclaim in Leonard Nimoy's "Vincent," a one-man show about the life of van Gogh. BroadwayWorld called his performance "masterful. He is a thoroughly-engaging, eloquent narrator, bringing great warmth, genuineness of feeling, and utter conviction to every aspect of his performance."

“Julian Schnabel's film is not so much about the artist as a journey into his inner being, so we experience the world in much the same blissed-out, tormented and chaotic way he himself did.”
