In pre-World War II Austria, a young nun-in-training named Maria goes to work as a governess for a wealthy widower, Captain Georg Von Trapp, and his seven children. Maria teaches the children to love music and singing, despite the Captain forbidding any music in the house. Meanwhile, the Nazi party's influence grows in Austria.
