Science on Screen®: Her (2013)

Science on Screen® at Images Cinema is made possible through a grant from the Coolidge Corner Theatre, with support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The subject of our 2023-24 season of Science on Screen® is A.I., and themes we will explore is how it is depicted as either embodied or disembodied, how it is gendered, racialized, or sexualized and how that helps humans integrate in domestic spaces, and much much more. There will be a pre-film discussion, co-hosted by series co-curators and Williams College faculty Drs. Ezra Feldman and Tim Lebestky, with special guests from the fields of science and the humanities. In the not so distant future, Theodore, a lonely writer, purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user's every need. To Theodore's surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all.RomancePT2H6MR2024-01-24
