<div><div>Presented as part of the German-Austrian Film Festival, organized and sponsored by the Williams College German Department.</div><div><br></div><div>This year, the German-Austrian Film Festival examines the depiction of the countryside in contemporary German-language cinema.</div><div>Set against rural landscapes, Fatih Akin's<i> Amrum (Germany 2025), </i>Mascha Schilinski's <i>Sound of Falling (Germany 2025), and </i>Andreas Prochaska's<i> Welcome Home, Baby</i> (Austria 2025) explore islands, villages, and isolated homes as sites of belonging, trauma, and transformation.&nbsp;</div><div>Together, these films reveal the countryside not as an idyllic escape from modern life, but as a landscape where the past lingers, generations collide, and the familiar can become both deeply comforting and unsettling.</div></div><div><br></div><div>Film synopsis:</div>Four adolescent girls each spend their youth in the same farmhouse over the last century.
